X's cats are a little on edge.

Steve McQueen has staked out a perch on the topmost part of the cat tree, and Farrah has taken refuge in X's bedroom.

Maybe it's all the blue fur?

X is feeding the fish, herself.

Someone has to do it.

Bloodworms wait for no woman.

Stitch himself is currently gazing intently in to the tank with rapt attention (and by "rapt attention" the narration of course means, his face is mashed up against the glass) a jar of peanut butter clutched in one clawed hand.

"Kata baka ikomachee?" He asks as the fish begin nailing bloodworms left and right.

"No," X says, shaking her head and replacing the cover on the tank.

"I do not think they can metabolize it."

Beat.

"Please do not lick the glass."

He freezes, caught in the act of doing exactly that, tongue pressed to the tank. His ears fall, as it is retracked with wet THOCK.

"Oh, okay."

Blink.

The drool is hastily smeared cleared away with the back of one furry forearm.

X silently passes him a towel.

For the glass.

It's accepted with only the faintest of a sighs. And then the glass is wiped off again.

X does not sigh.

She just goes to the freezer to put the bloodworms away.

"Thank you."

"Ih."

Mess cleaned, the towel immediately goes around his neck and swished dramatically. He hisses at the beta, which promptly flares, before turning to follow X in to the kitchen.

X does not laugh.

She is not built for it.

"You are hungry?"

There's a question that merits serious contemplation!


Or, you know, not.


"Ih," Stitch says again.


And then he offers her the peanut butter.

X takes the peanut butter and stashes it away in a cabinet.

"We can go out. It will be more efficient than cooking."

"Witha ball pit?"

Does she know somewhere that'll give them crayons to munch on while they wait for their meal?

X blinks.

Twice.

Then, blankly --

"I do not understand."

Stitch's ears flatten in frustration, his eyes narrow.

"For- throwing." He helpfully mimes lobbing a small projectile.

Oddly enough, the Pelekais are no longer welcome at many local 'child friendly' eating establishments these days.

X has to think about that for a few moments.

Then --

"They do not keep baseballs in pits."

She checked.

Wait.

"Naga," agrees Stitch with a negative head shake.

He's helpful that way.

X blinks.

Twice.

"I do not understand."

Please explain.

"Is..."

As cathartic and hilarious as beaning Myrtle Edmonds with a brightly colored ball may be, some things don't lend themselves to words easily.

And so, amidst snorts, growls and the occasional snippet of English, a picture is painted of something resembling a swimming pool. Full of balls. In a restaurant.

"Oh."

X absorbs that. It takes awhile.

Then --

"I do not know a place like that. Here."

Beat.

"Maybe Inez does. Tomas would like it."

It has possibilities!

Shake a leg, X!

She grabs a light jacket on the way out. To help with blending in.

On the landing she pauses, then goes back upstairs to a) snag an image inducer for Stitch and b) return Steve McQueen to the apartment proper.

He is a very wily cat.

"Wassat?" is Stitch's immidiate question upon Steve's incarceration being assured. A claw is helpfully jabbed at the object in her hand.

"It is an image inducer. So people will not notice you are blue."

She hands it over.

Carefully.

It's snatched up, turned over a few times in quick succession and snuffled enthusiastically before being carefully held out and stared.

...

X is given a look.

"Gaba ika tasoopa?"

It's not like people notice now.

X shrugs, one-shouldered and quick.

"I think it is better not to be easily recognizable. Today."

The skeptical look remains in place for a moment. He glances back down at the device. And up at X. Black eyes meet green.

Siiigh.

She gets a mute assenting shrug in return.
