May. 9th, 2008 05:57 pmIt feels like it has been a long time since X-23 started looking for the Facility's latest base of operations.
It has only been a day.
Earlier
She did not mean to run into Julian when she went back to the Mansion to grab supplies. But he is always there--at least when she wants him to be somewhere else.
He is very bad at taking 'No' for an answer.
But his telekinetic abilities will be useful, and much faster than hitchhiking. So she does not knock him unconscious.
Instead, she lets him take her to New York.
Now
She barely notices that Julian is looking at her strangely, all her attention focused on what lies ahead. The Owl should have the information they need, even if she does not want to deal with him. He thinks he is like the Kingpin.
He is not.
"We are not wasting our time, Julian. Just do what I have asked you."
It's a simple plan, but it will work. If Julian can keep his mouth shut and follow orders.
If he does not flinch from anything The Owl might have to say about her.
X-23 is not sure.
Earlier
What she is looking for first is someone who knows who might have the information. X-23 has been away from New York--away from this life--far too long to be aware of who the movers and shakers might be. But Vin will know.
She takes out Johnny when he makes the mistake of putting his eye to the peephole and keeping it there.
snikt
She does not bother taking out the rest. All she has to do is wait for Vin to make his escape.
He is very predictable.
"Where is the Facility's East Coast operation?"
It is a very simple question that she wants him to answer. This is made very obvious by the fact that she is pressing a gun to his skull while she asks.
Some people are more afraid of guns than her claws. She does not understand.
He babbles something, but it is not useful.
"You have three seconds. One."
I don't know, I swear I don't.
"Two."
I really, I can't tell you!
"Three."
Cadillac Jones! He knows!
She looks at him, green eyes wide and clear.
"I believe you."
And then she shoots him.
It is safer that way.
Laura! Why did you do that? You didn't--Never mind. Just. No more killing, okay? No more.
X-23 doesn't answer.
Now
"The Kingpin's favorite assassin and her boytoy coming to me and begging for help. My, how the tables have turned."
X just watches him, this brown-haired beared man in his trench coat. He is not important at all.
Julian works him up very well, and X, because The Owl is not very hard to manipulate, finishes him off.
"You are in control now only because the Kingpin has left the country. You will stay in power only until he returns, or until someone else kills you."
Beat.
"So no, I will not show you respect."
That's when the gunfire starts.
And that, of course, is when Julian does just what X asked him to, and grabs The Owl with his TK.
They are flying over the water a half-second later.
This is when the Owl spills everything he knows.
And now X is ready to collect the rest of her allies.
She does not want to leave Cessily's rescue to chance.
It has only been a day.
