Interdimensional gate-crashing is a physical impossibility
X slips in through the front door of her apartment, ducking down to bar Steve McQueen's passage out into the hallway.
Farrah makes her own break for it several seconds later.
Apparently she is learning from the best.
X does not sigh.
There would be very little point.

"Do you like it?"
Among these Elle has never done: bought herself a new bed. She might be sleeping on a sofa in her world. Maybe.

"Bruce takes up space. When he is here."
no subject
For once, perhaps, she doesn't know how to talk to X about something.
no subject
In case that is what Elle is --
Worried about?

And after another few moments --
"Space."

And then, Elle agrees. "You don't usually."
no subject
"But it is -- good."
Beat.
"Sometimes."
The fact that it only happens sometimes is helpful for that, too.
no subject
"I couldn't do that."
no subject
"I do not think you have to."
no subject
"I don't know."
no subject
Just in case she is missing something.
"Okay."
Sometimes not knowing happens.
X has learned that, if nothing else.
no subject
"I just still don't like it."
no subject
But articulation of her thoughts has never been X's strong point.
Which is why she stays silent for a few long moments, watching Elle.
Then --
"I am supposed to ask? Or it is better to talk about other things."
Segues are also not her thing.

Elle's still looking at the wall, but there's nothing particularly cold or distant in her voice.
no subject
"If you mind."
Beat.
"Not doing things that other people do. Or doing things that other people do not."
It's something X thinks about sometimes. She is not sure if that is good or bad.
Or useful at all.
no subject
"It's not about what other people do."
no subject
X absorbs that for a few seconds, expression pleasantly blank.
Then --
"I do not understand."
no subject
Certainly not something Elle could have pieced together so clearly before. Of course, trust is also something other people do - but it's a little more complicated than that.
no subject
It's only a little bit of a question.
Clarification is important.

"It is difficult to feel safe."

no subject
It is matter-of-fact.
These things happen.

Beat.
"It's hard to know who to worry about."
